Interior Chapel Wall

There are many artistic differences between I-San and the rest of Thailand. I-San's proximity with Laos partly accounts for many such differences in religious architecture, clothing, fabrics, folk dances and cultural traditions.
I-San Buddhist temples may also differ from Buddhist enclaves in other parts of Thailand in as much as temple murals may adorn exterior, as well as, or rather than, interior chapel walls.

A great many Thai Silk techniques and patterns are found only I-San . These include the distinctive "Mat Mee" (tie-and-dye) silk manufacturing process, found at its best in Chonnabot district in Khon kaen province, and which features exquisite geometric motifs based on animals and flowers.
